IIBA DALLAS CHAPTER MEETING JUNE 16TH, 2016

Thursday, June 16, 2016 -
5:00pm to 7:00pm

Scrum Working Well for You (the BA)? If Not, Why, and What to Do About It

The interest in Agile/Scrum software development practices continues to grow as companies seek more efficient methods of developing software while meeting market demands for delivery.  Agile/Scrum implementations don't always go as planned, and without some due diligence, chaos is easy.  Many organizations simply code, ship and hope under the label of “Agile.”

In this session, Neil enumerates the problems to look out for and provides example corrective actions that a BA can take.

Topics:

 Quick Scrum / Agile overview
 What to use out of the Agile Manifesto (all of it / some of it?)
 Do you have a Scrum framework or complete life cycle?
 Scrum risks to look out for and what to do about them:
o Speed can be mistaken for progress (many components developed that don’t work together)
o 1-liner requirements (the devil is in the details) & mumbo-Jumbo backlogs
o Where are the other requirement types?
  o Minimal / no architecture / design
o Compressed final system test / validation
o Configuration management of code and other items (e.g., requirements)
o Risk management (including requirements risks)
o Process assurance (ScrumBut) and maintaining the gains
 Adding additional practices to get a better result

Top 3 to 5 presentation goals:

 Know your risks using Scrum
 Know what corrective actions you can take to improve your team’s success
 Know how and where to add additional practices to get a better result
